-g option not working on HP9000

I just finished compiling GCC for an HP9000s400 and somewhere along the line
the -g option for debuging info was lost. Now when I try to compile anything
with the -g option, GCC complains that -g is not supported in this version.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks tonnes.
