multi-window shell

By M-x-shell a shell buffer is created. After splitting shell in
two windows I tried "rlogin another_hostname" in one of the shell and then
in this shell all the lines are ending with ^M. What's the reason and how 
to solve the problem (no ^M)? Thanks for any hints.
