I'm having trouble making gnu ld.  As per the suggestion in the FAQ, I
retrieved the binutils package from prep.

Making ld (make all.ld) fails for lack of flex. flex is not part of
that binutils package, and it is otherwise not installed on my
systems.  Any suggestions?  Should I refine the LEX macro to use lex?
Should I track down flex and install that?
