Does anyone know what the limit is, in GNU C, of the size of a set of pre-processor macro expansions? It appears to be greater than 16k and less than 64k. By this I mean if I write: #define FOO(A,B) BAR(A,B) BAR(A,B) #define BAR(A,B) FRED(A,B) FRED(A,B) and so on....how big can the result be? Thanks to those, including rms, who responded so quickly. GNU C doesn't have built-in limits, wherever possible. In my case I was running out of space in /usr/tmp when my expansion got to be around 64k.
