Hello to everyone out there!
The subject says it all. I tried to build X11R5 Pl.21 / XFree86
and got the following errors:
make World BOOTSTRAPCFLAGS='-DSVR4 -DSYSV386' >& World.log &
[...]
gcc -c -ansi -O2 -m486 -fpcc-struct-return -Di386 -I../../. -DSVR4 -D
SYSV386 -DUNIXCONN -DTCPCONN -DSERVER_LOCALCONN -DSVR4_ACP -fPIC XConnIM.c
XConnIM.c: In function `_XipConnectIM':
XConnIM.c:101: `asm' needs too many reloads
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6
*** Error code 1 (bu21)
[...]
gcc -c -ansi -O2 -m486 -fpcc-struct-return -Di386 -I. -I../include -I..
/.././X11 -I../.././lib/Xau -I../../. -DSVR4 -DSYSV386 -DXDMCP -DSHAPE -DMULT
IBUFFER -DMITMISC -DMITSHM -DXTESTEXT1 -DUNIXCONN -DTCPCONN -DSERVER_LOCALCO
NN -DSVR4_ACP xdmcp.c
xdmcp.c: In function `XdmcpRegisterBroadcastAddress':
xdmcp.c:173: `asm' needs too many reloads
gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6
*** Error code 1 (bu21)
[...]
Any Idea? Gcc is version 2.3.3, compiled with target=i386-sysv4, I build
the stage3 compliler wich was identical to stage2, should I try 'gas'
instead of the supplied assembler? (BTW this is ATT SYSV386 Rel 4.0)
Any hint is welcome!
Ciao,
BB

If you went to PL21 before applying the patches, something is bound to be screwed up. XFree86 1.2 will be out soon, and will support up to PL21. > > make World BOOTSTRAPCFLAGS='-DSVR4 -DSYSV386' >& World.log & > > [...] > > gcc -c -ansi -O2 -m486 -fpcc-struct-return -Di386 -I../../. -DSVR4 -D > SYSV386 -DUNIXCONN -DTCPCONN -DSERVER_LOCALCONN -DSVR4_ACP -fPIC XConnIM.c > XConnIM.c: In function `_XipConnectIM': > XConnIM.c:101: `asm' needs too many reloads > gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6 > *** Error code 1 (bu21) > > [...] > gcc -c -ansi -O2 -m486 -fpcc-struct-return -Di386 -I. -I../include -I.. > /.././X11 -I../.././lib/Xau -I../../. -DSVR4 -DSYSV386 -DXDMCP -DSHAPE -DMULT > IBUFFER -DMITMISC -DMITSHM -DXTESTEXT1 -DUNIXCONN -DTCPCONN -DSERVER_LOCALCO > NN -DSVR4_ACP xdmcp.c > xdmcp.c: In function `XdmcpRegisterBroadcastAddress': > xdmcp.c:173: `asm' needs too many reloads > gcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6 > *** Error code 1 (bu21) > > [...] > > Any Idea? (BTW this is ATT SYSV386 Rel 4.0) Well, I've built the server several times since upgrading to GCC 2.3.3, and have not had this problem. GAS has nothing to do with this; the compiler itself is dying. I'm really rather clueless about this. > > > Any hint is welcome! > > Ciao, > BB > > -- > -- Bodo Bauer * Nuernberger Str.81 * 8510 Fuerth * Germany * -- David Wexelblat <dwex@mtgzfs3.att.com> (908) 957-5871 AT&T Bell Laboratories, 200 Laurel Ave - 3F-428, Middletown, NJ 07748 "The meaning of life? It looks to me like one of the network related header files being inlcuded has an asm directive in it which gcc does not understand. My guess is it's some thing like an asm version of htonl. you can track down which header file it is by looking for a there is a #define called something like NO_ASM. If you put -DNO_ASM in your CFLAGS this will cause the asm chunk of code not to be included and thus allow you to compile. --mike -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mike Hoegeman email: mh@wx.gtegsc.com tel: (818)706-4145 GTE Weather Systems Group 31717 La Tienda Dr, Westlake Village CA. 91359

A good thing to do in this case is to do a cc -P on the file (or whatever the GCC equivalent is to produce a preprocessed-but-not-compiled output), and then compile the result. You can then track exactly what the problem is. -- Robert Withrow, Tel: +1 617 598 4480, Fax: +1 617 598 4430, Net: witr@rwwa.COM R.W.
