This is not the person whose account this is being posted from, this is actually rpjday@cuug.ab.ca. I have recently posted a number of messages regarding building gcc and the gcc runtime libs under SCO. However, it seems that a number of those messages did not make it off the local host in Calgary, so I am going to summarize where I am now. Any further advice would be thoroughly appreciated. I have built both gcc-2.4.5 and glibc-1.06.2 (so I have a libc.a). These have been installed in the usual places under /usr/local. If I try to "gcc hello.c", I get an error message of the form ld: Cannot locate crt1.o or something to that effect, as I am doing this from memory. I can get around this problem by creating an executable in two steps: $ gcc -c hello.c $ ld hello.o /usr/local/lib/libc.a I would, of course, prefer gcc to find this library by itself. Therefore, I have two choices: 1) Deal with the missing crt*.o files (gcc builds the files crtbegin.o and crtend.o -- should I rename them and move them or what?) 2) Somehow tell gcc to not try to find any crt*.o files and have it just do the link as above. If I can get past this point, I will basically have a full dev sys ready to go and I will be happy to put it in someone's ftp site, as there is nowhere in Calgary I can think of that has public enough access. I will also move on to building g++ (already built actually), and libg++ (not yet built but my next project). Can anyone help me past this obstacle? Until this is settled, there's really nowhere I can go from here. If you have some advice, please e-mail me at rpjday@cuug.ab.ca, and I will read this stuff after Nov 11 when I return to Calgary. thanks very much. R. Day Calgary Unix Users Group
