Here is how I made gdb-4.7 configure to read core dumps produced by Interactive
3.0:

1. Do a configure
$> configure i386-none-sysv32
2. Do a make with some options....:
$> make CC="gcc" CFLAGS="-O2 -D_POSIX_SOURCE -DNO_PTRACE_H" \
HDEPFILES=trad-core.o HDEFINES="-DTRAD_CORE -DNBPG=NBPC -DUPAGES=USIZE \
-DHOST_TEXT_START_ADDR=u.u_exdata.ux_txtorg -DHOST_STACK_END_ADDR=0x80000000" \
READLINE_DEFINES=-D_POSIX_VERSION USER_CFLAGS=-DHAVE_MEM_BREAKPOINT
