i tried it on a 730 with hpux 8.07 and gdb dumps core when trying
to print_gdb_version() [or so], probably due to using varargs,
see gnu.gdb.help. however, the binary works (thank you, i'd be
lost without!). gcc/g++ also has it's problems, see the relevant groups.
