One additional piece of information: At least for the test example,
the problem does happen for NFS-mounted files, but not for files on
local disk.  This could indicate a SunOS problem rather than a gdb
problem.  I'm running the compiles on the same machine as gdb, and
haven't tested other combinations.

The SunOS version is 4.1.2 for the machine running gdb, 4.1 for the
(Sun-3) file server.
