In what state is the Apollo port?

When I picked up gdb-4.6 the other day I noticed that configure had an
entry for Apollos. This is dispite the Apollo documentation in gcc-2.2.2
saying that a port of bfd to the Apollos would be greatly appreciated. In
what state is the Apollo port? Trying to build gdb on an Apollo produces very
mixed results so I'm surprised that Apollos get mentioned in the first place.
As an exercise in learning low level Apollo programming I might try porting it
myself but I'd like to know if I'm going to duplicate any existing work before
I start.

	Thanks.
