remote debugging with gdb over a serial line

Hi,

I've been trying to debug a process running on a remote system to which
I'm connected via a serial line. Both the local and remote systems are
Sun Sparcstations running SUNOS 4.1.1 . I've attempted to build the
remote_*.c modules which come in a shar file along with gdb, but with
no success. I've tried many different ways - the latest being the following:

	make -f Remote_Makefile
	cc  	-I/usr1/david/gnu/gdb-4.6/gdb	\
		-I/usr1/david/gnu/gdb-4.6/include \
		-I/usr1/david/gnu/emacs/src  \
	 	-DNEW_SUN_PTRACE -g  -target sun4 -c  remote_inflow.c

	"remote_inflow.c", line 173: fps_regs undefined
	"remote_inflow.c", line 176: fps_control undefined
	"remote_inflow.c", line 177: FPC_REGNUM undefined
	"remote_inflow.c", line 195: fps_regs undefined
	"remote_inflow.c", line 198: FPC_REGNUM undefined
	"remote_inflow.c", line 199: fps_control undefined
	*** Error code 1
	make: Fatal error: Command failed for target `remote_inflow.o'

	Compilation exited abnormally with code 1 at Thu Oct 1 14:48:25

BTW, fps_regs is not defined in /usr/include/machine.reg.h .

The problems all seem to center around the functions
fetch_inferior_registers() and store_inferior_registers(). Additionally,
there exists code in remote_server.c which tests the results of
store_inferior_registers() in an if test, but this is a void function !

      if(store_inferior_registers(-1)==0)
	write_ok(own_buf);
      else
	write_enn(own_buf);

Naturally, one gets a compilation error.

Has anyone managed to do what I'm attempting to do ??

Thanks in advance,
David
