In <9207250634.AA04933@cookie-crisp> <1992Jul24.122120.19579@daimi.aau.dk>, Lars Toeffner-Clausen observes: > I've tried using ppm8run in the pstoppm package for GhostScript 2.40 > but I get the error: > > Error: /rangecheck in --makeimagedevice-- > Operand stack: > [1.04167 0 0 -1.04167 0 825] 638 825 (\000\000\000\377... > and a whole lot more. > > What is wrong here? Maybe the Palette8 is erroneous, where can I get a > right one? In all current versions of Ghostscript, pstoppm uses older logic that insists that the output bitmap / pixmap fit in RAM. If you are running a 16-bit MS-DOS executable (gs.exe), you will not be able to render a full-page color image at any reasonable resolution. In Ghostscript version 2.5, you will be able to get full-page 24-bit PPM output using the new ppm device, regardless of RAM size or machine architecture; pstoppm will not be needed. 8-bit color with an arbitrary palette will continue to be supported by pstoppm, and will continue to be limited to very small or very coarse images on PCs. I will probably fix this properly in a release later this year. L.
