In article <1738vgINNjph@agate.berkeley.edu> jtkohl@cs.berkeley.edu (John T Kohl) writes: :I picked up GhostScript 2.5 yesterday, and the DeskJet 500 driver seems :to have introduced a couple problems. : :(1) Vertical lines may disappear... : the descenders of "p" and "q" seem to be missing, except for the :serifs!]. I have found broken descenders and other rendition weirdnesses with the 2.5 djet500 device. They seem to go away if I use deskjet instead of djet500. Purely subjectively, it also seems to print faster with the deskjet driver (I haven't run any timing tests). :(2) The margins are screwed up for the DeskJet 500. For letter-sized :paper, the top margin on the DeskJet 500 with perforation skip turned :off is 0 (according to my manual), not 0.40! :Again, reverting to the margins used in gs241 makes this problem go :away. [Although I wonder whether the original DeskJet really does have :such a large top margin?]: You speak truth. I was just wondering where the hell the missing 3/8" (approx) at the top of the page went. Unfortunately, I (and many others I'm sure) don't have the capability for compiling, especially the 386 version (I even doubt my old Turbo C 1.5 will handle the generic). I wonder if there's any chance we'll have fixed executables _real_ soon? One other point: it looks like dos4gw is incompatible with super-pc-kwik (caching system), even though superpck is perfectly willing to share nearly all of its ram with applications. Disabling it does not work. It must be uninstalled before gs386 will load and run.
