I am trying to build GS 2.5 using VAX C on my workstation, but the 
compilation of the files GSFONT.C and GXCACHE.C fails with the message:

  %CC-E-UNDECLARED, "data" is not declared within the scope of this usage.

below is a portion of the compiler output for the file GSFONT.C

My setup:

VMS 5.5
DECwindows-Motif 1.1
VAX C 3.1


Any ideas of what could possibly go wrong? 
Is there a workaround?
