Re <9210011802.AA14500@cookie-crisp>
<1992Sep30.195200.4963@tamsun.tamu.edu>, reporting a problem with the
Ghostscript Epson driver:
As I learned to my dismay over the course of several years, there is
no useful definition of "Epson-compatible." Every "Epson-compatible"
printer has a slightly different command set; the intersection is so
small as to be almost useless.
If you have a very old and/or feeble Epson printer that can't set tab
stops (which is the mechanism Ghostscript uses, since I found out
that the more efficient command for horizontal skipping isn't always
available), you can recompile the Epson driver so that it never tries
to do this. Just look for the comment "Skip a run of leading 0s" and
change the condition in the immediately following `if' statement to a
constant 0.
If enough people (3 or more) ask me for it, I can put in a
dynamically settable property that will cause the Epson driver not to
use tabs. This won't happen before release 2.6, which is scheduled
for January.
