I have not read the DPS license, so I cannot offer an opinion as to
what may legally be done with DPS fonts.

This is, unfortunately, a known problem with Ghostscript's character
rasterizer at low resolutions (below roughly 100 dpi).  By
"horizontal discontinuities", do you mean missing line segments, or
do you mean flat spots that should be curved?  I am planning to do
some more work on the rasterizer in future releases....

The AIX compilers are known to have trouble compiling Ghostscript.  I
can't really guess what causes this problem.
