Ghostscript uses the TEMP environment variable to find the directory
where it will put its scratch files. Ghostscript assumes that this
variable, if defined, is the name of a real directory, e.g.
	C:\TEMP
without a trailing \; Ghostscript always concatenates a \ on the end.
It never occurred to me that someone might want to use the root
directory as their temporary directory, but I agree it is not
unreasonable, so this is a bug. Meanwhile, to work around the
problem, you can set TEMP to the name of some other directory.
