I am using ghostscript with the x11 driver, to preview documents created with tex and dvips. I imagine that there must be standard postscript commands, to display the previous page; to jump ahead a few pages; and to display page number N. I'd be most grateful if someone would email me the command lines for the ghostscript interpreter, that do these things. Note: I know that the "right" way to do this is with ghostview. I've compiled ghostview (with gcc 2.2.2 -O2), and it works fine -- except that the overhead for the ghostview "shell" is too much for my small machine (386/25MHz, 8 Meg RAM, Sunsoft/ISC 3.0 Unix). So, the way to go, in my case, is with the slightly less convenient "raw" ghostscript interpreter (which works fine). Please email, as I don't usually read this group (yet). Thanks in advance, Sincerely yours, Saul Lubkin P.S. Is there some (standard or not) on line manual of Postscript commands in the public domain that one can download?

Going forward could probably be done by redefining showpage but going backward isn't really possible. To do so requires saving postscript code or page images, it certainly isn't standard. -- Michael Salmon #include <standard.disclaimer> #include <witty.saying> #include <fancy.pseudo.graphics> Ericsson Telecom AB Stockholm
