We are experiencing problems with the file selection mechanism here at Purdue (which has a large computer network). According to local staff: > Whenever /home is listed in one of the ghostview file > selection boxes ghostview stats all the /home/* directories which > causes the automounter to go out and try to mount the over 200 /home/* > directories we have at ECN. Unfortunately the automounter isn't always > up to this task and it will sometimes wedge up preventing access to all > automounted files e.g., my home directory is /home/bluestem/mccauley. So, whenever I crank up ghostview, it tries to stat everything in /home. May I suggest a better file selection mechanism? Instead of listing all directories two levels up, how about listing just the files in the cwd with an additional button which says "go up one directory" or ".."? This is similar to how many other packages work (e.g., FrameMaker, IslandWrite). -- James Darrell McCauley Dept of Ag Engineering, Purdue Univ internet: mccauley@ecn.purdue.edu West Lafayette, Indiana 47907-1146 bitnet: mccauley%ecn@purccvm UUCP: pur-ee!mccauley
