SUGGESTED FIX [optional]:
    Don't make temp_iterator::temp_iterator(const char *s, int len),
    which is defined on line 2564, 'inline' when __GNUG__
    is defined.  It calls memcpy and g++ v2.3.3 apparently
    thinks it's a bad thing.
