Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't find `LGPL' in $EMACS/etc/FAQ. So what is it? The term came up in the Zeleny vs The Rest of the World debate (sorry, am I showing my allegiance here?) TIA - Kevin -- .signature: no such file or directory

The LGPL is the GNU library general public license. You can get it from prep.ai.mit.edu as COPYING-LIB or find it in the GNU libc distribution. It differs from the GPL in allowing you to get away with not making the sources available for an application linked with the library in question. You are required to make the application available in a form that can be linked with a new (hopefully improved) version of the library however. Chris Flatters cflatter@nrao.edu
