When configured for a sparc, the symbol _POSIX_SOURCE gets defined because SunOS 4.1 and up have POSIX_VERSION in their sys/unistd.h header. As a result, the definition of TIOCGWINSZ isn't gleaned when ls.c includes sys/ioctl.h. The resulting behavior is ls defaulting to 80 column output for `-C' et al., since the COLUMNS env variable isn't defined by anything (e.g., bash). Is there any clean way to get around this? I just commented out the offending code in configure that sets _POSIX_SOURCE. Brendan
