Recently I tried to port GNU make 3.62 to the HP. I defined -DUSG, -DUSGr3, -DHPUX, -DHAVE_SYS_WAIT, and -DNO_LDAV; and I used alloca.c from emacs-18.58. The resulting executable worked fine with small makefiles, but dumped core with large makefiles. The stack trace indicated that make was crashing inside malloc(). After playing around for quite a while, I linked in perl's malloc and the executable started working. Has anyone experienced the same thing? What causes gmake and HP's malloc() to interact so poorly?
