   Just to add to my previous message:

   I tried to build gas-1.92.3 using "configure sun4os4 -target=ebmon29k"
   for COFF output which tries to use the BFD libraries. These are not
   supplied in the archive and all of the versions of BFD that I have
   (from binutils-beta-1.94 and from gdb-4.4) are not compatible with
   what this gas wants (e.g. use of am29k instead of a29k, use of
   am29k-opcode.h instead of a29k.h etc.).

   Which version of BFD should I use (from where) with this gas?

You don't.  Coff output will likely be removed before the full
release.
