I'm trying to compile flex on a VM/CMS machine (which is EBCDIC... yuk!).
It seems that flex "bootstraps" itself; it ships with a scan.c, uses that
to make a version of flex, uses that version to make a new (better?)
scan.c from scan.l, and then compiles flex again. This is all well and
good, except that the scan.c shipped assumes that the input will be
ASCII.
Does anyone have any good ideas on how to generate a scan.c which will
read EBCDIC? I'd rather not go through it by hand and translate the
appropriate parts to EBCDIC; it wasn't made to be human-readable and
I'm afraid that I'd introduce some new, exciting bugs to it.
