Hi,
Two bugs of uncompress alias zcat (I'm using them in the Linux version):
- uncompress may crash when applied to a compressed file that underwent
transmission errors.
- zcat may remove the file!
I'm using a filesystem with filename length limited to 14 characters.
So a file bigblablabla.tar.Z is called bigblablabla.t on this filesystem.
When I execute
zcat bigblablabla.t | tar -tf -
and interrupt it with Ctrl-C,
the file bigblablabla.t gets removed!
I would understand that if I were using uncompress. But zcat (linked
to uncompress) should NEVER remove a file!
I hope this bug report reaches the maintainers of GNU compress 4.0.1.
