I thinks that I have found a bug. I got GNU tar 1.11.1 and compiled without any problems. When I tar a users home directory as root it changes all of the directories to be owned by root (originally owned by the user). tar cf - <users_home_directory> | (cd <new_partition>; tar xvpf -) The only change I make to the code was in create.c on line 606, I casted the alloca to a char *. My system is a Sparc 690 running 4.1.2. Gran --- Granville B.
