I am trying to use GNUMake with the vpath directive and am having the following problem: I am building a library made up of objects derived from C files. I have a copy of the library in my current directory, the object file only exists in the remote directory and the C file is local. vpath points to the remote directory. If I run the make, the local object gets built (since the C file is newer than the object in remote), but the library does not get rebuilt since (it appears) vpath is still looking at the object in remote rather than the newly created one locally. How can I get the vpath to be re-searched and the local object picked up? It seems like this should be the default mode of operation. Thank you in advance for your help. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- D.
