I was trying to build m4-1.0 so I could use Autoconf, and was somewhat
suprised at the trouble I had getting it running.  It uses an ancient
version of configure, and several of the files didn't want to compile under
gcc-2.2.2.  So I copied some of the library routines from newer packages,
wrote a configure.in, and fixed everything so it was happy with this setup.
Is the GNU project interested in this update, or should I keep it to
myself?
