Problem compiling gs-252 on AIX machine

I am trying to compile ghostscript-2.5.2 under AIX 3.2.2 and have the
following error:
      c89  -O -DSYSV -D_POSIX_SOURCE -c iinit.c
"iinit.c", line 60.2: 1506-046 (S) Syntax error.
"iinit.c", line 60.14: 1506-045 (S) Undeclared identifier op_def_table.
The error code from the last failed command is 1.

.if I commented out the offending line, it compiles, but the link fails.
