Hi, I'm not sure if this first message got through, but I thought I'd send it again, just in case. Could you send me a confirmation that this was received? Thanks. Hi, My name is Joe DeBattista and I'm with the UCSF Computing Facility. I'm having a little trouble using tar-1.10, on a VAX/750 running Mt. Xinu's MORE/bsd (a 4.3BSD flavor). The programs compiled fine and seem to work to a certain degree. The trouble I have is when I try to tar files or directories owned by root. For instance, if I have a directory called =bench, and give the command "tar -cvf /tmp/testfile *"I get messages saying gnutar: can't add file =bench/ : No such file or directory I issue the tar command logged in as root, and both the tar and rmt files are owned by root with permissions of 755 on each of them. The old system tar command works fine. The gnu tar was compiled with gcc version 1.24 (sorry, I'm a little behind on my Vaxes). Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
