version number m4 is 1.0 and texinfo is 1.14.
I am working on a Sun4 with SunOS 4.1.2.
The compiler should not matterin this case but, I think I used
gcc compiler. I used the standard sun configure file which is
included in the ditribution.

In order to print out a hardcopy of the texinfo file I run

	% tex m4.texinfo

The response is then:

	% This is TeX, C Version 3.14
(m4.texinfo
! I can't find file `texinfo'.
l.1 \input texinfo^^I
                     @c -*- Texinfo -*-
Please type another input file name: exit

where I have typed exit in oreder to leave the program.

Any ideas?

thank you
any help is appreciated.

I don't remember if version one came with texinfo.tex included. Version
1.0.3, which is currently available on any GNU mirroring site or on
prep.ai.mit.edu, has a copy.
