I downloaded texinfo-2.16.tar.Z, size 516120, from gatekeeper.
Executing 'configure -prefix=/usr/local/gnu' on solaris 1 produces
sed: Ending delimiter missing on substitution: s?^prefix[ ]*=.*0prefix = /usr/local/gnu?
Problem is in lines 364 and 368 of configure:
prsub="s?^prefix[ ]*=.*$?prefix = $prefix?"
prsub="$prsub
s?^exec_prefix[ ]*=.*$?exec_prefix = $exec_prefix?"
the $? is expanded by /bin/sh to 0.
Adding a backslash seems to fix it.
Patch follows.
