The GNU finger configuration scripts and include files seem to have some duplicate information for installation paths (the Makefiles, config.h, and fingerpaths.h). This should be fixed so that it is easy to change the top level of all the paths with one command, like configure --prefix. Currently, this doesn't edit fingerpaths.h, or change the destination directory for the install targets. Also, it would be nice to make it easy to install the information in FingerDir (or is it FINGERDIR?) in something like /var/adm/finger instead of /usr/local/etc/finger, since some of that information can be local to each client (ttylocs), and on many systems, /usr/local is mounted from a central server and shared by all the clients. If not that, then perhaps the ttylocs file should be allowed to include terminal information for more than one host. Maybe something like: foo.bar.com:tty01 Foo Bar Plaza, Room 1009 podunk.edu:tty03 Ivory Tower, B13 This way, the file could be shared and include information for each tty for every host served. -- John W.
