I am trying to build glibc.a on our sequent (can you blame me given dynix's glibc.a). I have read every info and README file in the whole package and I can't find anything like this in any of them. My problem seems to be in the make files. Not being a gnu make guru I haven't had much luck in closing in on this bug. It seems that somewhere in the complex structure of multi-makefiles someone is not setting the subdir vars properly. Here's an example: $ configure seq386 Configuring the GNU C Library for `seq386'. Object files, etc. will go in the directory `seq386'. Using system-dependent files from directories: unix/bsd/seq386 $ /usr/local/bin/make make: fopen: seq386/sysd-dirs: No such file or directory make: fopen: seq386/sysdirs: No such file or directory make: fopen: seq386/sysdep-Makefile: No such file or directory (echo define sysdirs; ./find-sysdirs < seq386/Sysnames; echo endef) > seq386/sysdirs (for dir in `cat seq386/sysdirs`; do file=sysdeps/$dir/Makefile; if [ -r $file ]; then echo include "\$(..)$file"; else true; fi; done) > seq386/sysdep-Makefile (echo define sysdep-subdirs; for dir in `cat seq386/sysdirs`; do if [ -r sysdeps/$dir/Subdirs ]; then cat sysdeps/$dir/Subdirs; else true; fi; done; echo endef) > seq386/sysd-dirs-tmp mv seq386/sysd-dirs-tmp seq386/sysd-dirs make: fopen: seq386/depend-: No such file or directory (for file in sysdep.dep set-init.dep version.dep start.dep; do echo "include seq386/$file"; done) > seq386/depend- make: fopen: seq386/sysdep.dep: No such file or directory make: fopen: seq386/set-init.dep: No such file or directory make: fopen: seq386/version.dep: No such file or directory make: fopen: seq386/start.dep: No such file or directory cd seq386; gcc -pipe sysdeps/unix/bsd/make-local_lim.c -o make-local_lim /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/i386-sequent-dynix/2.2.2/cpp: sysdeps/unix/bsd/make-local_lim.c: No such file or directory make: *** [seq386/make-local_lim] Error 1 $ cat seq386/sysdep-Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/unix/bsd/Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/unix/Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/ieee754/Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/posix/Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/generic/Makefile Now I have found that when these makefiles try to run they use a sysdep_dir var to find their sources from within the obj dir. Unfortunatly that var is set for access from the root of the source tree. I have hacked the problem by changing the file to: subdir = seq386 sysdep_dir = ../sysdeps include $(..)sysdeps/unix/bsd/Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/unix/Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/ieee754/Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/posix/Makefile include $(..)sysdeps/generic/Makefile subdir = "" sysdep_dir = sysdeps Which gets these makefiles run but then other little things seem busted. It can't find other sources or it has the .. problem again. My question is has anyone else seens this? Is there a better fix? Are my following problems caused by my fix or just further bugs in the makefiles? Thanks in advance for the help -Chris Chris Turbeville turbo@cse.uta.edu
