pr seems to have problems finishing the first column on the final page
of two-column output unless it is asked to balance the final page.

Version 1.3 running on a Decstation 5000/200 under Ultrix 4.2 and
compiled with gcc 2.1.

Try:

#! /bin/sh

# create a 100 line file called `input'
test -f input && rm input
touch input
for x in 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ; do
  for y in 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ; do
    echo $x$y >>input
  done
done

# wc should always give 100 words.
wc <input		# right
pr -2tb input | wc	# right
pr -2t  input | wc	# wrong
