Hello,

we have a small problem with GNU make 3.54 that you may be interested in:

First the output of make -v:

    einstein:luik(45)> gmake -v -f /dev/null
    GNU Make version 3.54, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.
    Copyright (C) 1988, 1989 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
    This is free software; see the source for copying conditions.
    There is NO warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A
    PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Contents of Makefile:

MSG = echo umu

all:
	echo all made

Makefile::
	$(MSG)


Call GNU make with: make MSG="" and it will loop endless (trying to
update its Makefile I think). This should not happen.
