On the NCR Tower32 that I do program develpment on, /bin/make has a
very convenient feature: if a file needs to be checked out of SCCS and
the make variable RELEASE is defined, the file is checked out using
get -t -r$(RELEASE) s.file
instead of
get s.file
This is particularly important when the Makefile itself needs to be
checked out of SCCS, and helps tremendously when writing makefiles to
update multiple versions of a program from a single SCCS source tree.
I'm not sure whether this feature is a standerd part of System V make,
but it seems to me that adding it to GNU Make would be a good idea.
