Indent v1.5 (or anything) on VMS

Using GCC v2.2.2 on VMS, I have compiled indent-1.5 under
VMS v5.5. However, it doesn't work. The problem is that
apparently when indent reads the source file, there are null
characters in the input, which indent treat as end_of_file
tokens. So, usually, no output results, but sometimes one line
will come out.

I used the VMS DUMP command to look at a typical sources file,
and it does look like there are null characters after the new
lines. This seems really bogus, and I couldn't find a quick
work-around.

If anyone has compiled GNU Indent, or BSD Indent, or anything
under VMS, using VAXC or GNU C, then please let me know. Thanks...
