I'm using:
GNU Make version 3.62, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.
Copyright (C) 1988-1991 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
The problem:
Spaces in the VPATH list, after colons, are considered
significant and therefore match very little.
Example:
VPATH = headers: src
%.h:%.ph
@sed -e 's/TEST/test/g' < $< > $@
This rule will fail for any headers in the "src" directory since make
will be looking for a " src" directory. The normal Sun make works just
fine on this rule, looking in the "src" directory.
Why is this a bug? Well, in the makefile that I use, we do a lot
munging of directory names with things like FOO =
{$BAR:%/booga=%/goober}. Then, when we're ready, we stick them in the
VPATH with VPATH = {$FOO:%=%:}, which adds the appropriate colons. It
also keeps the spaces about, so we fail as per the above example.
In the mean time, if there is any way that I can remove the spaces, I'd
like to know.
Thanks much,
Ian Flanigan
