GNU tar 1.11
#804

Installing GNU tar version 1.11 on a Next running OS release 2.1 revealed the
following:

1. Files buffer.c and diffarch.c declare valloc() as

	extern char *valloc();

which conflicts with the Next's definition in /usr/include/stdlib.h:

	extern void *valloc(size_t size);

2. The configure script fails to add -DBSD42 to the list of compilation
definitions. It checks for the presence of /vmunix, but the Next boots from
/sdmach.

3. When the final executable is linked, malloc.o is linked in, which causes
name conflicts with malloc, free, ... in the Next shared libraries. The
configure shell script test for /vmunix to see whether to use tar's malloc.
