I have installed tar-1.11 and tried to use it to un-tar the libg++.2.2.tar distribution from prep.ai.mit.edu. I used 'tar xf libg++.2.2.tar' and got the following message: tar: cannot chown file neral Public Licenses are designed to make sure that you have the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge for this service if you wish), that you receive source code or can get it if you want it, that you can change the software or use pieces of it < ...it goes on for many lines here... > Apparently current_file_name gets munged in extract.c. I have not had any other problems with tar-1.11, with other archives. (I ftp'ed libg++ again, just in case there was a problem with the transfer, and got the same result.) It MAY be a problem with the libg++-2.2.tar distribution; however, tar does get through the table of contents for libg++ (using tar tf libg++-2.2.tar). I haven't tried to look for a fix. Any ideas? Am I the only one who has had a problem with this?
