gnu tar 1.11 problem report

System: Sun 3/60 running SunOS 4.0, gcc 1.40, bison 1.03
Problem 1:	when building the program, it failed on y.tab.c which
		was generated by getdate.y
		gcc -g  -sun3 -c -o getdate.o y.tab.c
		getdate.y: In function get_date:
		getdate.y:858: storage size of `tv' isn't known
		getdate.y:859: storage size of `tz' isn't known
		getdate.y:861: `tv' undeclared (first use this function)
		getdate.y:861: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
		getdate.y:861: for each function it appears in.)
		getdate.y:861: `tz' undeclared (first use this function)
Solution:	put -DBSD4_2 in the gcc line fixed the problem, but I
		am not sure how to make configure generate correct makefile.
		Notice the configure set -DBSD42=1 which is different from
		what the y.tab.c expect (BSD4_2). Also the -DBSD42=1 did
		not appear when compiling y.tab.c.

Problem 2:	core dump when I replace my old tar (1.08) with 1.11. The
		command I used was:

		$ tar -cpvT /tmp/backup-.pub
		Segmentation fault, core dumped
		$ dbx /usr/local/bin/tar
		Reading symbolic information...
		Read 10368 symbols
		(dbx) where
		quote_copy_string(string = (nil)), line 784 in "port.c"
		print_header(), line 536 in "list.c"
		finish_header(header = 0x46000), line 1279 in "create.c"
		dump_file(p = 0x43488 "/tmp/backup-.pub", curdev = -1,
			  toplevel = 1), line 489 in "create.c"
		create_archive(), line 178 in "create.c"
		main(argc = 3, argv = 0xefff970, 0xefff980), line 233 in
			"tar.c"
		(dbx)
Reason: current_file_name is NULL, not sure why
