What is the best way to move a car from Los Angeles to New Jersey,
without driving it myself?

I'd appreciate any pointers. Since I don't read most of these
newsgroups, please send your reply to:

  chou@cs.ucla.edu

Thanks!

There is a company based in Arizona called AAAAutoShipping or something like
that. They shipped my car by truck from Illinois to L.A. for about $600.
They also offer drive-away service where they contract someone to drive your
car (this is cheaper, of course you will have someone else putting a lot
of miles on your car).

Hi!

I`d drive it for some fee. I`d need an airplane ticket for the whole
family (3) from Jackson, MS to LA, CA, and from NJ back to Jackson, MS. I
need 5 days allowance (food & accommodation) Please let me know if you
are interested in hiring me.

For the whole family? And you live in Jackson MS? You've got to be kidding.
That would cost thousands!

I don't know if these services still exist (I don't see any reason
why not) but there used to be a few companies which moved cars around the
country for something like $50-$100 (surely higher today). You give
them, say, $100 and your car, and they find someone (not an employee, but
someone who is looking for cheap travel - there are probably people who
travel around the country driving these cars for cheap) to drive your car
where you want it to go. (The person who drives the also pays a fee, and
your car is insured against damage or loss until you pick up the car at
its destination.)

Drive it over to Universal Studios and ask them to "beam" it over from
the Star Trek set. <G>

Obviously, the man asked for a serious answer. So I would
suggest *shipping* it, but before doing so, filling the car
with helium to make it lighter to lower the shipping cost.
As for which service to use, for God's sake, use UPS and not
the post office! - Huy

I drove across in 1988 and again in 1992 and it was a great experience. Don't
have the time? I have shipped via a standard trucking service (call United
Van Lines) for about $750. One of my employees had a college student who
needed transportation for a vacation drive her sport utility vehicle across
country. She used a service that arranges everything and insures the vehicle
while the student is driving it. It took two weeks to get her car but it only
cost $375.

If it is not a great car don't take it. If it is a great car, why do you want
to trash it in NJ?
