The California Institute of Technology, a small, independent university
recognized for its technical instruction in science and engineering is
located on a 124 acre campus in Pasadena.  Caltech has an enrollment of
some 2,000 students more than half of whom are in graduate studies, a
faculty of about 280 professional members, more than 370 research
members,
and 1,700 staff members.

Will work in Hilo, Hawaii and at the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory
on
Mauna Kea, Hawaii, to assist in the astronomy operations of the
observatory by providing computer programming, observation support, and
possibly observing. Duties include: writing computer code for telescope
and instrument control; and  data taking and data reduction; assisting
visiting astronomers with their observing programs and possibly
conducting
observational astronomy programs, either alone or with other CSO staff. 
Reqs.  Master�s degree in Astronomy, Computer Science or Physics and
min.
2 yrs. related exp. or equiv. Also requires exp. in instrument control
and
data taking and data reduction programming. Must have knowledge of
machine
level and high software. A Post-Offer of Employment Physical 
Examination
is required for high altitude work (14,000 ft). Candidates with a Ph. D
in
Astronomy, Physics, or Computer Science and exp. in instrument control
data, data taking and data reduction programming will be given
preference.
