Here is a more interesting loop an one which show why education at
university should be free or almost free: Almost every politician has
been to university. Thus university graduates form the ruling elite.
Also look at how many MP's, mayors or MLA's have siblings, parents or
uncles/aunts in government or how many in the States went to Harvard Law
School (you should see their alumni list someday.) Might as well bring
back the monarchy.
This reminds me of a quote in a book I just read of some rich snob
complaining; "I hate it but I have to go to Parliament. Eldest sons in
my family always go."

Now if university is so expensive that only very rich people can go
university. Then the ruling elite will be only very rich people.
    Scary eh.!!
Consider free education; rich kids now need good mark to get
accepted. What rich kids can't get degree?? So rich parents donate to
NDP or Secred or whoever telling the person who accepts the money they
want their kids in university.
So government raise tuition fees. At UBC this led
under-enrollment. Therefore UBC lowered admission requirements. Now as
much as a whole letter grade lower than five years ago. Now no matter
how dumb your kid is they can go to UBC as long as the parents will pay.

Tuition up --> enrollment down--> lower standards--->tution up
-->enrollment down ---> lower standards-->etc.
The above has happened at UBC.

What may happen next:
Many US colleges offer summer prep to pamper the rich. If your kid
has like horrible grades, you can have them attend prep courses during
the summer. These are non-credit, basically high school courses taught
at college and open to anyone with enough cash. Usually very
expensive. The kids admission decision is not made until he has spent a
whole summer being tutored and pampered.
Therefore it is likely that tomorrow's leaders will be that much
dumber not to mention snobbish.
