It might not, but going about ones life as if the universe doesn't exist could 
get one killed in a hurry (if the universe doesn't exist the bus coming 
towards me can't kill me).  On the other hand, going about ones life as if god 
doesn't exist won't affect one's life in the slightest, unless there happens to 
be a witch hunt.  On the other hand, going about ones life as if god does exist 
could be almost as dangerous as going about ones life as if the universe 
doesn't exist (if god exists he will stop the bus coming towards me from 
killing me).   So, even the philosophy of pragmatism demonstrates that atheism, 
and believing the universe exists, are superior and complimentary positions.
