SANTIAGO,Chile (AP) - Police in the Chilean port city Valparaiso used tear
gas and water trucks Tuesday to disperse scores of university students
protesting against the weekend Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit and
the visit of President George W. Bush.

Authorities said one police officer and two television camera crew members
were injured, one of them with two broken ribs. At least two demonstrators
were detained.

Masked students set a U.S. flag on fire and threw firebombs and rocks at
riot police and burned a police water truck.

It was the first clash in the series of anti-APEC and anti-Bush protests
announced by leftist and anti-globalization groups.

An unauthorized student march is scheduled Wednesday morning in the capital
Santiago.

The only march authorized by the government is scheduled Friday, also in
downtown Santiago, away from the summit site.

Chilean President Ricardo Lagos has said opponents of APEC and Bush have the
right to demonstrate because Chile is a democratic country but he urged them
to "protest in a civilized manner."

Security has been stepped up throughout the city in anticipation of the
summit, that is scheduled to take place from Friday through Sunday.

  1.. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious
devotion.

Autism and schizophrenia are unrelated. Because Autism is a behavior
disorder, Autism spectrum disorders are hard to describe but easy to
observe, especially with kids like mine who are considered "high
functioning". Autistic people, depending on their level of
functionality, can rise as high as anybody. There are autistic
university professors.
Autistic children seem to tune out the world around them. Sometimes
they seem deaf but they really are just ignoring everybody. In severe
cases you could literally murder their parents right in front of them
and they would seem to not even notice or care, yet inside they would
be just as grief stricken as anybody would be.
My daughter surprised her teacher once, while she was busy drawing
pictures during a lesson. The teacher was surprised that Lesleigh
absorbed every word the teacher spoke as was able to repeat it back.

There is no cure for autism. Some drug treatments for schizophrenia
and epilepsy have shown some promise but not much. What happens to the
adult really depends on the severity of their autism. Some make a good
living while others are permanently institutionalized. Here is an
