My hard disk has been killed by Norton Anti Virus 4.0 (NAV) and
PartitionIt 1.0. (PI). I used PI to repartition my HD when NAV was
existing on my Win95. NAV later prompted me whether to "inoculate" or
"repair" some sort of files or records, which I've forgot. I then chose
"repair" since I didn't know a disaster would result. Now, I'm using a
new HD so I can still type this to you.

Here's some profile of my damaged HD, which is divided into 2
partitions, and the disastrous outcomes:
C: installed with Win95 and all programs. it's FAT can't be recognized
now (I checked it by fdisk), it is completely unrecognizable or
inaccessible by the PC except it's drive letter.
D: containing various folders with miscellaneous data. At first, while
in DOS environment, I could still recognize some sort of folders I used
to have. Later when I used Win95 on my new HD to access them, all the
folder names turned into some strange characters and I couldn't open
them. After this, I used ScanDisk in Win95 to scan that partition. The
folder names are recovered now but all the folders are empty. A lot of
files named something like file0001.chk, file0002.chk......file000X.chk
are left on that partition. I guess they are undo files generated by
ScanDisk.

Here's a piece of text I cut from the Readme file of NAV4.0 regarding
it's conflict with partitions:

"If you use partitioning software (such as Partition Magic) or drive
overlay software (such as Disk Manager and EZ drive), you may receive
inoculation alerts for legitimate changes. When you set or modify
partitions after Norton AntiVirus is installed, choose Inoculate, not
Repair, to respond to these alerts.
For example, Partition Magic may generate several legitimate inoculation
alerts when setting or modifying partitions. If you choose Repair, your
drive may be rendered inaccessible with little chance of recovery. "

Although it seems the chance of recovery is slim, I still hope there
will be somebody knowing how to cure my HD since both partitions contain
very important data........

Looking forward to receiving good news from you!!!
