Usual disclaimer

* Inexpensive ($6 or under per person)
** Moderate ($6 to $14)
*** Expensive ($15 to $25)
**** Very Expensive ($25 and up)

Indian

Anand Bhavan * (6662 SW Fwy at Hillcroft) What normal Indian people eat
- authentic home cooking

Bombay Grill ** (3640 Hillcroft) Good and very cozy;don't be misled
by the exterior

Bombay Palace ** (3901 Westheimer at Weslayan) Best Indian in town.
Their all you can eat lunch buffet is vared and outstanding

India's (5704 Richmond W of Chimmey Rock) Large selection of curries
and tandoori. Don't make the mistake of saying to the waiter, The
hotter the food, the better the tip. They seek to please!

Natray ** (2047 Marshall at Alabama) As spicy as you like, with the
airy atmosphere

Shiva * (2514 Times Blvd. in Ric Village) Beautiful setting, more
tuned to western tastes as Indian cuisine goes.

Taj Mahal ** (8328 Gulf Fwy (I-45 S) at Bellfort) Sitar Music and
food are authentic, with a good reputation in the Indian population
here.

Italian

Birraporetti's ** (1997 W. Gray and downtown near Jones Hall at 500
Louisiana) A staple for group gatherings and fancy pizza. Advertised
also as an Irich bar. The downtown restaurant is famous for getting
you out in time for Symphony concerts. W. Gray location features Ed
Gurbek and Try Renfro orchestras every Monday evening

Carrabas ** (3115 Kirby past 59) Huge portions at dinner. WIth
reportedly the only wood-burning pizza oven in twon and their own herb
garden, they draw quite a cosmopolitain clientele every night. Prime
time dinning means quite a wait

Damian's Cucina Italiana ** (3011 Smith) Good food in a formal
setting;great for birthdays because the waiters sing in Italian around
the cake. A very nice evening.

Fred'd Italian Corner * (2278 Hocombe at Green briar) Very good
entrees for under $5 which come with gomemade-style bread and salad.
Their wine is reasonable and Fred looks happily out over the dining
room throughout the meal. Servers are as colorful as they come.
Close by and romantic for folks on a budget.

Grotto Restaurant ** (3920 Westheimer at Wesleyan) Classy,
comfortable, and catering to the professional crowd

Nash D'Amico's Pasta and Clam Bar ** (2421 Times Bl in Rice Village)
Greatly enjoyed by some, considered over-priced by others

Nino's *** (2817 W. Dallas east of S. Shepherd) Enjoyable, authentic
Northern Italian, fairly close to downtown, which makes it ideal for
an elegant dinner before a theater event.

Prego ** (2520 Amherst in Rice Village) Great seafood, pizza and veal
dishes and a neat wine-cellar function room for birthday and other
parties. Their fried squid and south-of-the-boarder grilled chicken
fettucini are memorable.

Trattoria Pasquale **/*** (2325 University BL) A rare Rice Village
setting for a nice lunch or dinner at home, in a house. Opera music
and fine menu make it something special
